Twins vs. OriolesWell, not exactly how the Twins wanted to start the season off, but it is what it is. I did see some good things today though, Carroll was really solid at shortstop, he made some great defensive plays. Chris Parmalee looked great at firstbase too, as a long time Twins fan, it is going to take some time getting used to not having Justin Morneau at first, but I think that Parmalee has a great future over at first. Josh Willingham ended his Twins debut with a 2-Run Homerun, which is good to see! I'm looking forward to this season still and I think that the Twins are still going to have success! Twins final stats: Rays vs. YankeesTHIS GAME WAS FUN! I didn't get to watch the game, but it was fabulous to keep track off! Loved how it started early on with them intentionally walking S-Rod to get to Carlos Pena and then he hits a grand slam! WELCOME HOME CARLOS PENA! What a cool moment, I saw a highlight of it and the Trop almost blew up! It went crazy! Yankees scored a couple of runs and the 9th inning magic was back! Desmond singled and then Zobrist tripled him home to tie the game and Mo blew the save. Then they Intentionally walked Longoria and Scott to get to S-Rod, who had a fantastic at-bat but ended up striking out. It was Carlos' turn again.. Could he do it again with the bases loaded? He didn't get a grand slam, but he got a single to win it for the Rays! I'm so glad that Carlos got to have a happy homecoming for the Rays, he is going to have a great season!

Jeremy Hellickson, of the Tampa Bay Rays won the Baseball America Rookie of the Year in 2011. This is well deserving for Jeremy, he had a fantastic season this year. Jeremy's numbers this year were, 13-10 with an 2.95 ERA, He had 2 complete games and 1 complete game shut out. He pitched 189 IP with 117 Strike outs. Jeremy pitched fantastic almost all year long, he had a few tough games but he started 29 games and 20 of his starts were quality starts. Jeremy was involved in a great starting rotation that had James Shields & David Price in it. Jeremy Hellickson pitched good enough to be the number one starter, but in a tough rotation he acted as the number 3. I remember when Jeremy pitched against the Twins earlier this year and he was straight up nasty, he has good control and stays calm on the mound. He is a nice and young solid pitcher. Congratulations on a fantastic season Jeremy and good luck next year! The Official R.O.Y. award the "Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year" award winner will be announced later.
On Sunday afternoon, the Tampa Bay Rays completed the sweep of the Red Sox. In dramati fashion, it was a tight game for the first few innings until BJ Upton broke the game open with a grand slam. Bringing them 3.5 games out of the wildcard. Next 3 games in Baltimore. Here are the match-ups: Obviously, a very important series for the Rays as they play against the Red Sox after the series against Baltimore and then play a series against the Yankees.
Lots of people thought there was no way that the Rays could make a push to get to the post season. But, after a win on Friday and a walk off win tonight against the Red Sox. People's opinions may of changed. They Rays now only trail the Red Sox by 4 1/2 games in the American League Wild Card. They have one more game left in this series. Then go to Baltimore. Tomorrow the Rays send out James Shields who is 3-0 in his last 3 starts. Red Sox Send out pitcher Jon Lester who is 2-0 in his last 3 starts.
Tomorrow's matchups: James Shields (14-10, 2.77 ERA) vs. Jon Lester (15-6, 2.93 ERA) _____________________________________________________________________________ Baltimore Pitchers Monday- Jeff Niemann (9-7, 4.07 ERA) vs. TBA Tuesday- David Price (12-12, 3.40 ERA) vs. TBA Wednesday - Wade Davis (10-8, 4.36 ERA) vs. TBA _____________________________________________________________________________ Then they play 4 against the Red Sox and 4 against the Yankees, including a double header on September 21st. I love the Tampa Bay Rays! I've never blogged about them! So here is my chance! Talented & Young team! Pitching: Incredible this season! Here are the stats of the Rays starting pitching! Although, it will take a lot of winning in the next month, the Rays aren't completely out of the AL East race, still plenty of time to catch up! Even though Justin Verlander is most likely going to win the Cy Young, I think James Shields should have some serious consideration, the man has 10 complete games and should have about 3 more wins if it wasn't for lack of run support.
Rookie Desmond Jennings is having an incredible rookie season: 41 games, 157 At-bats, 26 R, 49 H, 8 HR, 20 RBI's, .312 AVG, 15 SB Went to the Twins game vs the Rays on July 5th, this was a very interesting game for me considering that Tampa Bay is my second favorite team.. and It had my favorite Minnesota pitcher (Scott Baker) went against my favorite Tampa Bay pitcher (James Shields) but, the income came on well, The Minnesota Twins won 3-2.. Should of won 3-1 but the 9th inning had a woah and Matt Capps served up a solo shot to B.J. Upton. Glen came in to save the day for us! Here are some pictures from the game! :) Enjoy! |
